About Oohmoon and the HappyFamily Illustrations
After starting Oohmoon on December 1, 2010,with the goal of creating an illustration a day for a full year, I wanted to celebrate reaching my 100th illustration. So, I invited my followers—aka “oohmoonies”—to enter a contest with the possibility of winning one of six free family portrait illustrations.
Well, they entered the contest, and to say the least, the family illustrations were a hit. And so much so that they spurred another contest just a few months later. After the contests, I received tons of requests for these (you guys rock!). So once the year was over, and I did indeed complete 365 illustrations in 366 days (I took Christmas day off), I was convinced. And the new focus of oohmoon shifted to the custom “Happy Family” illustrations. I do, however, still give away one “oldie but goodie” (one of the first 365) illustration a week.
Custom Happy Family illustrations are exactly as they sound. They are your family, custom illustrated by me. You send me your family photos and your story, and I illustrate you. It’s SO much fun for me, and so meaningful for you. I love “getting to know” each family I spend time recreating. I love putting our heads together to create something unique, beautiful, and incredibly special for each family.
Thank you for your interest in oohmoon and the custom Happy Family illustrations. If you’ve never introduced yourself, drop a line in the comments field or via the contact page. I always love to meet a new “Oohmoonie”!!
About Katie
As you know by now, I’m an illustrator. I love it! I believe this career is a gift from God. There’s no other way to explain how it came to be. I have had the privilege to work with such notable clients as Hallmark, Hasbro, American Baby Magazine, Playskool, and Family Circle Magazine to name a few.
I received my BFA in Graphic Design and quickly evolved from designer to illustrator. I have a deep love and appreciation for design, but a clear gift and passion for illustration. As you might be able to tell, my illustration work is heavily influenced by my formal design education.
Illustration is a huge part of my life. But an even huger (is that a word?) part of my life is my family. I have been married to the love of my life, best friend, and high school sweetheart since 2004. He still makes my heart swoon! Garrett is an amazing graphic designer and entrepreneur. Actually, he is the brains and braun behind oohmoon. Amazing. I’m so blessed.
We have two young boys that are the delight of our life. Judah was born in October 2008 and doesn’t walk anywhere—he sprints. He LOVES to be the center of attention, and he has a wild imagination. Our Finnley was born in August 2010, and is a curly headed sweet pea with a sensitive yet fearless spirit. I sense that many more exhausting (yet exhilarating) days are in our future!
These (beautiful) boys (husband included) serve as continual inspiration (and distraction) for my illustration and this blog. I love them so!
Work and family aside, the passion of my heart is the Lord Jesus Christ and the study of God’s Word (the Bible). I strive to do all of the above in a way that will bring God fame and glory, and not myself. Jesus has saved me from eternal death, secured me for eternal life, drawn me to a personal relationship with Him through reading and studying the Bible, been the greatest thrill and fun of all of my life, changed and grown me in ways that only He can do (and continues to do), and has given me purpose this side of heaven to live for Him and hopefully help others know the joy of personal relationship with Him as well! Seeking to honor Jesus with my illustration work is a give-in to me. Marrying modern art and faith is my dream. (Unless otherwise noted, I use the English Standard Version [ESV] of the Bible in my writing.)
My other interests include snow skiing, cooking, baking, designing my house, finding great mid-century-modern pieces that someone doesn’t know the value or beauty of and is selling for a smokin’ deal, quiet moments all to myself (though I’m not sure these actually exist anymore), date nights, basketball, jogging on my treadmill, candles, all four seasons (summer being the least of these), jazz music, kiwi fruit, being my own barista (iced mochas are my addiction), spending time with close friends and family, and the great outdoors. These are the things that inspire me and bring me lots of joy. Watch and see how such things inspire their way into my art work.
Thats me in a nut shell. I hope this can always be a place of beauty, integrity, inspiration, fun, good design, and great community.
Bringing joy to children world wide
A portion of the procedes of this site, go to support children in poverty through one of my favorite organizations: Compassion International. “Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.” So not only will your illustration purchases bring joy to you and the children in your own life, but your purchase will bring aid to children in great need around the world.
Thank you for your part in supporting children in great need and in making the world a better place!
