I SO loved working on this piece. An ice cream shop!! I mean, come on. Does it get more sweet than that!? When I received Christine’s application, I knew I MUST illustrate her family! How could I not love this concept. Plus, her colors. Green and orange.
I was one happy girl working on this piece.
Not to mention the adorable family!! SO cute.
Here is Christine’s entry:
|Would you prefer a vertical or a horizontal portrait?||Horizontal|
|Where are you from?||Powell, Ohio|
|What are you family Members names, ages, color hair, color eyes, etc.? And, tell me a bit about their personality.*||Tom – brown hair, blue eyes, quiet studious computer engineerChristine – brown hair, hazel eyes, outgoing photographerFor Ellie (9 year old),light brown/blond hair, happy music-loving book-reading fourth grader,can she be wearing a t-shirt with a small Abercrombie moose emblem on it?
For Sadie (6 year old),brown hair, gregarious and social, can she have a ring on her finger, bow barette in her hair, and silver sparkly shoes?
|The 3 to 5 prominent colors I would like in my piece include (be specific—ie. “royal blue” rather than “blue”, or “light celery green” rather than “green”): *||deep orange, kelly green, chocolate brown, golden yellow|
|Is there a career path you would like to include in an illustration:||An iphone near my husband would be great. Camera near me|
|Tell me what you would like to see your family doing (would you like them just sitting all together posing, as if for a picture? Or would you like them to be doing something together). Please supply the most details here:||I would love for us to be all eating ice cream at our favorite ice cream store, Jeni’s Splendid ice cream here in Powell. We spend a lot of time there as a family, and the colors and decor in the shop lends itself to the style of your illustrations (see powell location here…http://www.jenis.com/scoop-shops/
The link to Jeni’s website that I sent you give the idea of the interior. In place of the snowflakes, I’d like colorful bunting-style/triangle flags (what they typically hang in the summer) in a similar hanging style. Also, we typically get our ice cream in waffle cones, so showing those would be great. My youngest likes the push up style, pale lme ice cream. My oldest likes vanilla. My husband could have a hot chocolate in a mug. I like anything.
|Any other details you might be able to give me that would help ensure your enjoyment of the piece:||Showing the blackboard interior, jeni’s orange trademark sign, the marble countertops, us sitting on stools maybe, the old reclaimed bar wood on the counter….And also a plastic cup of water with a cucumber floating in it beside me. Hope this is not too many details!! Can’t wait to see what you come up with ….so excited!Just want it to be a fun loving unique family image I can proudly display in our home, use for cards, etc. As a photographer, everythign we have hanging are photos. Thanks for your time! Also, we are having family photos done next month, so I will have more/better images then.|
I have never had Jeni’s ice cream. We don’t have them in our area. But I am sure wishing we did. I LOVE ice cream and reading about them and their flavors online… it looks truly magnificent! Wow! No wonder the Okonak’s like to go there!
I did notice, Jeni has a cook book out… It is a must on my Christmas list this year! Yum!
Thank you Christine and family! It was so lovely to work with you!
