Fireworks and Puff the Magic Dragon
I know it’s Independence Day. And that I should be posting something patriotic for giveaway today. I wish I could actually. But without thinking, I gave away the fireworks piece on or around my wedding anniversary this year. At the time, I could only think of the fireworks between my man and I! So since I don’t really have another good one to give away for today, and since I didn’t get to creating a new patriotic piece today, I am giving away “Puff the Magic Dragon” from last year. I hope I didn’t already re-give this one to you this year! So sorry if I’m repeating myself.
Last week we checked out a big stack of children’s books from the library. And one of them happens to be an illustrated version of the Peter, Paul, and Mary song, “Puff the Magic Dragon.” So we’ve been singing the song all week. And today my son wanted me to teach him all the words. So I finally just purchased the song on iTunes so he didn’t have to keep listening to me sing it! The song was my favorite as a child. And so I love that Judah and Finnley are loving it right now too! The song is actually kind of sad… it’s about growing up and leaving childhood behind (according to Wikipedia, it is only a rumor that the song is about smoking weed). The story book we have been reading, however, give the song a good ending. In pictures, it shows Puff finding a new friend after Jackie Paper grew up and moved on with life. So my son is always happy Puff found a new friend.
Tonight at supper Judah told me that he has a dragon friend too. Only he is brown (in the book, the dragon is green), and his name is Bubba! Lol! Love it! I wouldn’t doubt that he has a dragon friend named Bubba though! He has such a wild imagination!
Since tomorrow is the 4th, I do not plan to work. I imagine it’ll be a long day and night. But I will still post Cammie’s Happy Family illustration on Friday! Hopefully sooner in the day than later!!
Have a wonderful 4th, yawl!! Happy Birthday America!!
xox,
Katie

I love this one. I want to go to Hawaii – to Hana Lei – so we can “look for” Puff the Magic Dragon
Happy Independence Day!
Love your illustration of this song – thank you so much for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing 4th of July!
