Happy Family Potrzebowski
You guys HAVE to read Erin’s entry for her family. I loved how she described them. Sounded so much like my family of origin. Maybe it will yours too! I love how she described they talk and debate as a family. I can almost hear their passion over a game of cards!!
This is for her parents’ 60th birthday! What a cool idea for them! I love seeing a grown up family still with very strong bonds!! So awesome!
Here is her entry:
| What are you family Members names, ages, color hair, color eyes, etc.? And, tell me a bit about their personality.* | |
| Dane (Dad) – Brown/reddish hair, full beard and mustache, 5’11″, average weight, twinkle in the eye, absolute family man and provider of the family, loves the outdoors and being hands on, loves to canoe and kayakPatti (Mom) – Darker brown hair (almost black), short (5′), always smiling and singing, does gardening for a living and loves plants, loves the outdoors, was the stay at home mom for Adam and I (Erin)Adam (Son) – Brown hair, 5’9″ish, 20, more in shape than the rest of us, currently a college student (mechanical engineering), likes to bike, canoe, kayak, loves the outdoors and cheering for Purdue sports, thinks he knows everything
Erin (Daughter) – Brown hair, 5’3″, 26, not as thin as I’d like to be!, Purdue alum, mechanical engineer, likes to read, be outside with the family, rooting for Purdue sports also, likes to get into discussions! |
|
| The 3 to 5 prominent colors I would like in my piece include: * | Blues, Greens, Yellows, Reds, Browns – bright, but natural colors (no pink!) |
| Is there a career path you would like to include in an illustration (ie: I illustrated the husband as a police for the Brown family portrait): | Not for my mom or dad – could be cool if Adam and Erin were somehow represented as engineers (Not sure how to do that) as I know it’s something our parents are really proud of (and still confused as to how they produced two math kids!) |
| Tell me what you would like to see your family doing (would you like them just sitting all together posing, as if for a picture? Or would you like them to be doing something together). Please supply the most details here: | I would love to see us all in a green canoe (photo attached) on the water, with trees, outdoors stuff in the background. This is something we grew up doing and are actually planning another canoe trip this fall for Mom and Dad’s 60th birthdays and Dad’s retirement. (I don’t need anything representing their birthdays or retirement in the illustration though – they’d hate that!)
Also – not sure if you can incorporate Purdue into the illustration – but we really are all big fans! |
| Any other details you might be able to give me that would help ensure your enjoyment of the piece: | |
| We are the canoeing, kayaking, hiking, camping family. All of us love to be outside and it shows the activities that we like to do as a family. My mom loves flowers as well, and built her career around them! As a family, we also bike, sail, play really competitive card games!, watching Survivor, and rooting for Purdue sports. My dad and I are both alums, and my brother is currently attending there. My mom gets to be a fan by association, but attending Purdue games is something we try to do as a family at least once a year!We are very energetic as a family – in many ways. We have intense (but loving!) discussions (some might call them arguments), but love to debate things. Everyone likes to talk and I don’t know many people who would call us a quiet family.Adam and I live across the country from our parents (and where we grew up), so this is hopefully going to be a fun illustration of us when we do get to spend time together! It’s part of several gifts we’re arranging this year for our parents 60th birthdays (they were born 8 days apart). My dad is retiring this year and both parents are really excited to get to spend more time traveling and outside. | |

Erin, thank you for the fun of illustrating your family!! Let us know how your parents like it!!
Have a great weekend everyone!! Next week I’ll be traveling, so I plan to give away 2 oldies next week! There will be a new Happy Family piece posted at the end of the week though!!
Hugs!!
Katie

My husband is currently getting his PhD at Purdue, so I couldn’t help but be excited at this post. Boiler Up!

I love this illustration so much – it really represents us well as a family! I’m very excited to have this in my house and super excited to show my parents as well!
