Canines: Dalmatian

I think dalmatians are beautiful. I don’t know from personal experience, but I’ve heard they are not the sweetest dog out there. Whether this is true or not, I think its clear why they’ve gotten so much press on the large and small screen. They are so pretty, aren’t they?! I remember seeing 101 Dalmatians as a child and desperately wanting a brood of dalmatians myself. I even would have been good with just one, but a whole litter would have been the cat’s pajamas.

I would seriously love to know if any of you have a dalmatian! What is he/she like? If you’ve never commented before, and this is the kind of dog you have, make today the day you introduce yourself and say hi! :) We’d love to hear from you!

A new series starts tomorrow. I always get excited for a new reveal and a new topic to illustrate. I know the topic, but not the approach yet… I think I’ll be needing to pick the brilliant brain of my personal art director (aka my husband, Garrett) today. I love when we join forces. I love to see what we can do together.

Hope you have a restful and uplifting Sunday!
xox,
Katie

    Hi Katie,

    Delightful canines!

Had a query on your creative process. Actually I have lots of questions, but we do get an insight into the thinking process you have, when you write about the day’s art.

Can you let me know what software tools you employ, as I am getting interested in digital illustration. Or probably the best beginner tools? Definitely one needs to have some amount of artistic ability, but do you have to be very good at drawing with a real pencil?

    Cheers!

Hi Katie – Just popping in to say a few things. One, I’ve been following your illustrations almost all year. They are fantastic! I should have commented earlier. When I saw that you were doing dogs I was wondering if you were going to do a dalmatian it was a long shot since there are so many breeds. :o ) Can’t wait to see what your are working on.

I grew up with 2 female Dalmatians, they were the sweetest girls. One was laid back and calm and the other was a little hyper and obsessed with tennis balls. My mom and dad now have 2 new girls and they are almost the exact clones of our old 2, not sure how that happened (they aren’t related). :o ) I’ll try to facebook tag you in one of their pictures.

My sister had two dalmations. One was the was sweetest dog EVER and was so good with her kids. One was NOT and had to be put to sleep after biting or threatening to bite several children – they had gotten that one from the pound not that that means you’ll get a mean dog but someone had gotten it as a christmas present then turned it in a few months later and who knows if this didn’t contribute to its less than ideal temperment. I have heard they are not that friendly with children usually.

Thank you for the dalmation – my son calls them ‘fire dogs’ and his ‘firetruck’ birthday party is next weekend so I’ll definitely be printing this one…maybe pin the chief hat on the fire dog?!?!

I love your style of artwork and would LOVE to see a Westie!

  • Can I just give you a high five for spelling dalmatian right? I grew up with Dals and I promise you more people spell it wrong than right!
