Wooden Wonders: Tree Five
WHEW! I am SO tired! Physically and emotionally. Our city is flooding. And going to continue to be under water through at least half the summer! Its devastating. There is going to be some MAJOR loss of buildings and homes in this community. Today between two doctors appointments for out littlest one and then heading to help some friends in the flooding areas, its been a long and emotional day! There’s part of you that feels guilty that you’re not in the flood zone, but part of you so thankful too. We feel that if we get to escape this one, though, we need to be down there helping as much as we can. We’ve been through two “natural disasters” to our own home (a flood and a fire) so we have such empathy for those going through this right now. We know the exhaustion that overcomes you as you are working to protect your home and the emotional drainage from it. We know the feeling of great loss over it all. We are so aware of this trying time in the world right now. And seeing firsthand a disaster like this in our own “neighborhood” really brings it all home.
So what does all of this have to do with our pointy pine tree? I’m not sure. I guess as part of this blog, you get to do a little life with me! And thats what’s on my mind right now. Praying for our city and those affected by other disasters! If you wouldn’t mind saying a prayer for our youngest son. He’s been sick all winter/spring (literally) and we are finally getting the help we need for him to hopefully make him well (Praise the Lord), but we are weary of his poor little body being so run down for so long. He really needs a season of good health to recoup! You can pray for that! Thank you guys!
And now to remind you to head over to I’m Feeling Crafty to see some things that inspire me artistically. Several fun links for you!!
Yay for Friday and a long weekend!
Take care!
Katie

My in-laws were caught up in the flooding in Australia earlier in the year. They are only just getting back into their house. Their home wasn’t flooded; but all of their land was; and they’ve still had to replace all of the carpeting and soft furnishings because of mice – they were looking for a warm dry place to stay and, well, their house was it. And of course now they have to worry about snakes, who are flourishing because there are so many mice. I guess what I’m saying is, don’t let your energy flag too early, because you’ll be needing it for months still to come. It’s tough. I’m sorry your community is going through it. (The upside to my in-laws’ community going through it is that my husband’s grandma got a kiss from Prince William – which was probably the highlight of her 95 years.)
Ohhh I’m sorry to heat that about your in-laws’ home! They must be so glad to finally be home again though! So sweet your grandma got a kiss from Prince William!!
beautiful. I’m sorry for the hard time your city is going through.
I’m sorry your little one is so sick too. have you thought of changing his diet? I read lots of blogs where the kids have allergies and/or celiac disease and it seems going grain free and/or using a GAPS diet seems to really help. thankfully I don’t have to deal with that, yet, with my son as its pretty intensive but everyone who does it says it helps the whole family with skin issues even…my sister’s youngest was healthy till he started eating food then lost weight for years and was on a feeding tube etc. they haven’t really changed his diet cause his father has chrones and just refuses to do things like that but he is getting somewhat better as he ages though his immune system is still quite compromised. its really hard as a parent to have a sick child…so humbling since there is almost nothing you can do. I remember when my son was in the NICU for almost a month…you just hope everyday is better and the doctors and nurses are nice and do their job well…so horrible feeling out of control.
Your family and your city are in my heart and thoughts. You are a wonderful person for helping with the flood. If there’s anything that you (or your flooded out friends) could use that could be put into a care package, please please let me know. I decided a few weeks ago (after being so inspired by Ashley Ann at Under the Sycamore) that it’s time to stop just writing checks and start getting my hand dirty, as it were.
(not sure if you’re familiar, but here is the blog of another amazing mother: http://ashleyannphotography.com/blog/ )
ps – if you put snow on the ground and added the most crudely drawn ornaments you’ve ever encountered…that’s what every christmas tree I’ve ever drawn looks like
Katie,
Your son and your neighbors are in my prayers. We have had an exceptionally wet spring here in the Pacific NW, but luckily, no disasters yet. It also causes some major cases of the blues and I can totally relate to needing nicer weather to feel better. I hope your little one gets better soon!
Hope all the families are safe and together! Will be thinking of them! and Good Job to you and your family trying to help the others out! I’m sure they are very thankful to have you!
