You guys, thank you so much for all your well wishes and prayers. We made it safe and sound. A little worse for the wear, but we are here and sure to be fully recuped after tonight’s sleep! My little boys didn’t get to bed until 3am our time last night! Whew! That made for an interesting day. But I cannot complain because they did amazingly on the tip. They were so patient. My two year old was so excited to be flying and by the power of the plane when it took off and landed! Isn’t it fun to experience new things with our little ones!?

Today we have trains, or “choo choos” as my son calls them. Some of you are probably vastly familiar with train riding, but I have been on VERY few trains in my life. It’s been years since I’ve even been on one. For those of you who travel by train a lot, what do you like most about it?

Just one day left in this short series. Oh I can hardly wait to work on tomorrows! Speaking of that, I better turn in so I have a few more braincells—and hours of sleep—to work with tomorrow :)

Happy Weekend! Gotta love weekends!

Katie

For our honeymoon, my husband, Peter, and I took the Amtrak train from Bismarck, ND to Chicago! We got a sleeper car and it was so much fun! The dining car was especially fun–because of lack of space to accommodate the many passengers, they typically seat four people to a table. So, for each of our meals, we got to meet new people and have some really great conversations with people from all over the country! I just loved our trip on the train! Thanks for making this one, Katie! So cute!

I grew up riding trains, having grown up in Philadelphia. I think when my mother was thinking “if I don’t get these kids out of the house I may kill them” we went. I loved the excitement, the conductor punching our tickets, the sounds and smells at the stations as we got off…the voice calling “fox chase” or “broad street” and the slight anxiety of what if we miss our stop. one time, as an adult, we did…my sister and were milling about the door area and could not figure out which one to open and it started…so silly. I loved when I worked downtown and had a good 30 minutes to read or watch people or just think instead of worrying about traffic. I hate driving in traffic!

I rode an overnight one in Germany as a child and was fascinated by the seats the slid out to make a bed. and it was just so different than the US where you all watch each other and see what’s going on…your own compartment.

now as an adult, my son loves them. though the ones I’ve taken him on are somewhat different than I had a child, its so fun to see the scenery rushing by and getting to our location in an unusual way.

we both think trains are great. he is often a conductor at play time and he loves when I pretend to stamp his ticket and we have had many a train whistle to blow (the dog has destroyed most of them).

My only experience on a train was last year in Italy. My husband and I rode from Rome to Assisi. We had such a hard time hearing what the upcoming stop was and staying awake – I was so scared we would miss Assisi! Luckily we didn’t. :) I think I may custom order one of those really popular subway scroll things with all the stops from Rome to Assisi on it and give it to my husband as a surprise.
