Since I am illustrating in reverse chronological order, remember that these shepherds have just seen a host of heavenly angels! As experts in their trade, they have the unbelievable ability to whip out a baby present from sheep to thread in no time flat. And that is just what they are doing. In case Mary and Joseph didn’t travel prepared with a blanket for the Baby, they have one now. Or perhaps they came back to their field after seeing the Baby and new just what He could use… a beautiful woolen blanket.

Luke 2:15-20 (NASB)
15When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”16So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.17When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.18And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.19But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.20The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

  • Love this…and I love that you are giving it your own little personal touch. :-) I’m guessing tomorrow might be the angels?

i’m Jewish, but celebrate Christmas with my husband and twins. Please don’t take offense, but it’s a totally secular holiday to me so I wasn’t interested in this week’s series.

But, now, I don’t know! I love your take on the story, I love irreverence, especially when it comes from a place of knowledge and intelligence. I would actually consider using this one. :)

Heidi~I do not take offense! What you said means so much! Thank you very much for your comment—from the bottom of my heart! Merry Christmas (and Happy Hanukkah too! At one point I didn’t know what Hanukkah was about, but now I do, and its a great celebration and remembrance of the hope there is)!
